The ELPA Performance Advisory Board suggestions for Sant Jordi

Sant Jordi (the Day of the Book and the Rose), is a very special day in Catalonia, and it is just 20 days prior to EPIC (ELPA Performance International Congress) at Tecnocampus Mataró. Therefore, the ELPA Performance Advisory Board (PAB) does not want to miss the opportunity to guide other performance professionals, who are also avid readers.

The inside story of one of basketball’s most legendary and game-changing figures, Phil Jackson, is the most recommended book by the PAB. ‘Eleven Rings‘ is the chosen book by both Mar Rovira and Julio Calleja-Gonzalez. Amongst other experts, Mar Rovira will introduce a topic “Mental health for basketball players: a comprehensive framework to respond to athlete’s needs” at Tecnocampus in Mataró on May 10th.

Igor Jukic, another PAB member who will be in Mataró, picks “Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity,” written by Peter Attia. The book is a well-founded strategic approach to extending lifespan while improving our physical, cognitive, and emotional health. At EPIC, Jukic will talk about how to become better on the court by engaging in off-court activities.

Others suggest latest scientific releases, like Baris Kocaoglu. ‘Musculoskeletal Injections Manual: Basics, Techniques and Injectable Agents,’ is written by several authors with the support of the ESSKA (European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy). This book presents a comprehensive and updated overview of musculoskeletal injections with biologic and non-biologic injectable agents – a new trend in treatment in orthopedics and sports medicine.

Jaime Sampaio suggests a book that is a bit different from his presentation on May 10th: “Antifragile, Things that gain from disorder,” by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. According to the Sunday Times, Taleb is “the hottest thinker in the world.” On the other hand, Francesco Cuzzolin picks the funny ‘Big guys don’t shrink,’ a hilarious and sarcastic summary of players and coaches written by Eric Zweig. The book inludes parts such as Rod Hundley’s memoir: “My biggest thrill came the night Elgin Baylor and I combined for 73 points in Madison Square Garden.” Finally, to include a more adventure-fiction genre of books, the ELPA’s Managing Director Bostjan Nachbar recommends an epic science fiction novel by American author Frank Herbert, ‘Dune‘.

ELPA PAB hopes the suggestions were helpful for you to choose your book, and wishes you a ‘Good Sant Jordi’.
