The EuroLeague Players Association’s (ELPA) Managing Director, Bostjan Nachbar attended the National Basketball Players Association’s (NBPA) Leadership Program in Las Vegas. The program taught players about the challenging and very competitive post-career path and provided valuable information on basketball operation, the collective bargaining process, salary cap, free agency, the draft and other segments of basketball at the highest level.

Bostjan Nachbar used this seminar as a beneficial learning experience and gathered plenty of useful information for the continuous building and expansion of ELPA. He also spent a lot of time with Mr. Ron Klemper, NBPA Senior Counsel, who has been in charge of negotiating five Collective Bargaining Agreements between the NBPA and NBA.

In this way, he set the foundations for building a very strong affiliation with the NBPA who are already helping ELPA with their knowledge and experience, especially regarding its upcoming Collective Bargaining Agreement with the EuroLeague and future pension system for EuroLeague players.

Besides that, Bostjan Nachbar had the opportunity to talk with NBPA’s Vice President Garrett Temple, who is still an active NBA player. Temple, who played for a year in Europe, is very happy that ELPA has been established and he believes they will be able to achieve the necessary changes and improvements for EuroLeague players.

This is just one of many positive responses about the establishment of ELPA, that has the NBPA’s full support. They understand the necessity of a union of EuroLeague players that protects their best interests within the 2nd best basketball league in the world.

Bostjan Nachbar, Managing Director of ELPA:

“We will continue to strengthen our relations with the NBPA. Kyle Hines, ELPA’s First Vice President will visit the NBPA offices in July, to meet their staff and learn about their interaction with NBA players. In the fall, Secretary General Anze Blazic and I will visit the NBPA offices, to discuss different tasks and player programs of NBPA departments and discuss future joint events. This way we will continue to serve the best interests of the players and assist them in maximizing their opportunities and achieving their goals, both on and off the court.”
