EuroLeague Players’ Association continues its commitment to players’ long-term success reaching beyond the game. On January 13th, ELPA hosted an exclusive Financial Literacy webinar tailored specifically for current and former EuroLeague players, a vital step in equipping our community with tools for financial freedom.
Familiar faces, real-world wisdom
The session brought together two EuroLeague alumni turned financial advisors: Jake Cohen, former player of Maccabi Tel Aviv – now with Axiom Asset Management, and Jaycee Carroll, formerly of Real Madrid – now with Three Seasons Wealth. They shared authentic perspectives, drawing from their transitions out of professional basketball. They created an atmosphere of trust, where 20 attending players could absorb lessons from those who’ve successfully navigated the same path.
Key themes that resonate
The webinar dove into four essential areas every professional athlete should master:
- Managing income during and after playing career: Strategies to make earnings optimal through volatile seasons and beyond.
- Smart saving and investing strategies: Practical approaches to grow wealth without complexity.
- Avoiding common financial mistakes: Real-life financial pitfalls and how to sidestep them.
- Preparing for life after basketball and achieving long-term financial security: Building a foundation that lasts a lifetime.
A foundation for player autonomy
One of ELPA’s mission has been centered on empowering players to control their futures. This webinar underscores that exact philosophy: financial literacy is not a luxury, it is an infrastructure for sustained success. By connecting players directly with their peers who’ve made that leap, ELPA grows its community and fosters the kind of knowledge that translates to confidence on the court and in life.
